New Biology

In the genomics field, a revolution in sequencing technology has enabled high throughput and genome-wide analysis of cellular behaviour. Monitoring cellular behaviour and differentiation status allows assessment of the regulatory state of all genes together, generating transcriptional profiles, epigenetic state maps, and maps of inter- and intra-chromosomal interactions indicative of trans-regulatory processes. We refer to this as the “New Biology”: The ability to exploit the full potential of both genome-scale information and new quantitative technologies to reach a more fundamental, integrative, systems level understanding of complex biological phenomena.
